CenterOverviewMichigan Ag Council Manager ObjectiveTo drive and
facilitate strategic initiatives of the Michigan Ag Council (MAC)
and its member/partners and through existing organizational
networks and communication tools. To prospect and recruit new MAC
partners, apply for mission-focused grants and manage consultants
to execute projects and programs.ResponsibilitiesMichigan Ag
Council Manager ResponsibilitiesLead the development,
implementation, reporting, and amplification of the MAC strategic
plan. Enroll MAC partners, develop measurement metrics, and drive
programming to achieve goals. Develop and execute an annual plan of
work to meet the MAC's strategic priorities and goals. Create and
execute fundraising strategies that align with the council's
strategic direction and financial needs. This includes targeting
resources such as MAC partner memberships, business memberships,
community partnerships, project sponsorships, and grants.
Administer bi-monthly council meetings in collaboration with the
executive committee. Manage meeting logistics, prepare board
packets, take minutes, and handle follow-up communication. Manage
outside consultants and/or agencies to develop and implement
educational and promotional materials, programs and events
consistent with the MAC mission and strategic plan. Oversee MAC
events in alignment with strategic goals, including site review and
selection, vendor management, sponsor engagement and benefit
delivery, design and procurement of event materials, promotion,
financial oversight, and the preparation of final reports. Direct,
develop and disseminate an editorial calendar using new and
existing MAC communication vehicles (electronic newsletter, MI
Foodie News, website(s), social media channels and MAC partner
publications and events) to build brand awareness of Michigan
GROWN, Michigan GREAT and meaningfully connect with consumers.
Supervise, negotiate contracts, and hold consultants and/or
agencies accountable to maintaining and continually updating and
enhancing the MAC website, digital presence, social media channels,
e-newsletter, farmer training resources and new and existing MAC
communication vehicles to improve consumer perceptions of Michigan
agriculture. Provide monthly analytics and appropriate
recommendations regarding content, placement and strategic
direction. Develop and implement a stewardship plan to showcase the
value of MAC partnership to existing partners and their
stakeholders/boards to maintain financial support of the council.
Manage, prepare and administer annual MAC budget for activities,
work with Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Accounting Department in
monitoring monthly expenses and report variances. Adjust expenses
to meet budget objectives. Work with the MAC partners' identified
accounting firm to ensure proper yearly tax preparation, filing of
all required tax papers and compliance with tax and financial
reporting.QualificationsMichigan Ag Council Manager Qualifications
RequiredBachelor's degree in agriculture, communication or public
relations required, or equivalent experience may be considered.
Knowledge of Michigan agriculture required. Current computer and
social media skills required. Three to five years' experience in
marketing and/or the agricultural industry required.
PreferredExperience in association management, working with and
training volunteers, nonprofits, fundraising, marketing or
advertising preferred. Experience working with farmers preferred.
Coursework in business, marketing, or related field preferred.
